Bold and Mighty Hails!
I figured I would put this up here now, so planning can be started for the 2012 Festival.
If you caught the flier you saw the events they were planning. Some of them didn't happen due to car troubles for the heads of specific events. However, Next year it will be bigger and I plan on having a Dagorhir Booth at this event. During the two days, at some time we will also do a Dagorhir demonstration. (General Dagohir Fighting for anyone that shows up with Garb and weapons) Fighting will most likely last for only 2 hours a day so that other events can be put on. (i.e. Archery Competition, LIVE STEEL weapons demonstration, etc.)
Anyone willing to come fight will be able to camp. We will have a Historical Tent area and a Mundane tent area. The historical tent area will be open to the public for view if the camper wishes. However, you will need to show only period stuff. (Aerrindis and I took all our mundane stuff out, or hid it with period blankets, during display times.) The general idea during this event was Living History. So we set up a sort of Viking Exhibit. It was Awesome!
For those that do not have a period tent you are still welcome to camp. You can always participate in the other events, set up or help with a booth, help with the people that are setting up an exhibit or perhaps prepare an exhibit of your own.
We could also plan some RP between combatants and have it play out throughout the day and culminate in a large scale battle. (Possibly with recruits from the public.)
Below you will find the flier they posted for this years. It will most likely take place the 3rd weekend of august in 2012.
What do you guys think?
THE FIRST ANNUAL NORFOLK HARVEST FESTIVAL
Veterans Park - Boyne City, Michigan, Saturday, August 20, 11:00am-8:00pm & Sunday, August 21, 11:00am-5:00pm - The Norfolk Harvest Festival is a portrayal of interactive living history ranging from the Medieval to Colonial periods, consisting of day-to-day living, as well as demonstrations with tents and structures depicting life in a new trading settlement. The public will be encouraged to interact with the reenactors, asking questions about their activities or demonstrations.
The festival's goal is to present an aspect of history and family fun, meeting the goals of the Family of the Five Lakes: to enrich the lives of present and future generations through historical education.
The event will host local food vendors (with a pig roast throughout the weekend, courtesy of Adam Kline) and merchants, as well as performers such as:
• Award winning performer/song writer Michael (Lee) Seiler - house MC
• Nationally recognized Robin Lee Berry
• Ruby Williams
• Eclectic world folk styling of Gaeyle Gerrie and John Richey
• The definitive old world flare and craftsmanship of Dan House Entertainment highlights
• Special guest performance by the Wawel Folk Ensemble, a Traditional Polish Dance Troop, on Saturday
Some of the events and demonstrations of the festival include:
• Live Steel Fighting Demonstrations
• Weaving, Forging and Living History Demonstrations
• Games for young and old such as King’s Corners (Tablut) and Kubb
• Period-style archery competition
• Kids activities including performances and balloon twisting by Jania Taylor Saturday afternoon and Sunday
• There will be traditional oil and massage therapy by Barbara Borgeld and chair massages by Marie Sheets of Myofascial Message
Area non-profit organizations such as the Charlevoix County Humane Society, Compassion Hearts and Manna Project will be on hand at this event, and donations of non-perishable food items, clothing as well as monetary donations will be appreciated.
The First Annual Norfolk Harvest Festival is sponsored by Petoskey Area Visitor's Bureau, Magnum Hospitality, the Boyne City Gazette, and the Boyne City Ace Hardware/Boyne Motel, with additional support from BBQ and Thick N' Juicy.
The Family of Five Lakes is a group of local reenactors dedicated to the spreading of knowledge of past crafts and lifestyles, as well as promoting the local community. It is their hope that the attending public will come away from this event with a knowledge which promotes interest in the time periods portrayed, and a desire to learn more.
